Bhola Correspondent . Maulana M. A. Karim Ibn Mosobbir is a well-known figure in the political arena of Bangladesh, having emerged tested through fire and hardship. The true persona of this man behind the camera and media spotlight remains unfamiliar to many. In national politics, he is widely recognized as a close and trusted confidant of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s former Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Beyond his role as a politician, he played an invaluable role as a fearless, anti-fascist columnist. According to his followers, he was imprisoned during the regime of the then Sheikh Hasina government due to his vocal writings against injustice. His close associates also claim that his sharp columns contributed to the shutdown of national dailies like Dainik Amar Desh and Dainik Sangram.
A few days before the disappearance of BNP’s Central Organizational Secretary M. Ilyas Ali in 2012, a warning message was received on his mobile phone expressing fear that both M. Ilyas Ali and Maulana M. A. Karim Ibn Mosobbir might be abducted. This detail was later highlighted in a front-page report by the daily Bangladesh Pratidin on April 28, 2012, following the disappearance of M. Ilyas Ali.
Later, in 2013, he was imprisoned alongside top Islamic scholars, including Maulana Junayed Babunagri—a close associate of Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi—on charges of leading the historic Shapla Chattar movement. Following his release from prison, political instability forced Maulana M. A. Karim Ibn Mosobbir into exile abroad.
Currently, a large section of the conscious public in Bangladesh believes that a capable, honest, selfless, and patriotic personality like Maulana M. A. Karim Ibn Mosobbir should be entrusted with vital national responsibilities, including a position in the government cabinet. His supporters and well-wishers strongly feel that the country needs experienced and dedicated leadership of his caliber to drive positive governance.
